BACKGROUND HISTORY

This business started as a haulage business under the name W. Wakley.  It later became a company - M Wakley & Sons Ltd.   Their first bus in 1920 was a Ford TT wagonette DM1951 which was originally a lorry but converted to convey 14 passengers.  By the 1930s they were operating on a number of routes including Mold – Flint Courtaulds, Mold to Llay Main Colliery, Mold to Shotton, Mold to Halkyn.  They ran an express service from Holywell to Birkenhead and they also began running tours from Northop, Ruthin, Denbigh, Flint  and Mold.

The business began to wind down during the 1950s with the tour business being transferred to P and O Lloyd. The last bus owned was purchased from Wallace Arnold in June 1959 and sold in August 1965.
