So far there have been four generations involved in the Go Goodwins business that started in 1976 when Alan Edward Goodwin began running one minibus and one coach from their drive at their council house in Benchill, Wythenshawe.  Two years later in 1978 Geoffrey Alan Goodwin (son of Alan) joined the business.   They obtained a good sized yard in Sharston near Wythenshawe and the business began developing.  The first brand new mini bus was obtained in 1979 and the work load increased. Further premises were acquired in Stockport and new contracts were obtained including work for the Altrincham Aces Ice Hockey team (now known as the Trafford Metros). By 1984 they had obtained the lucrative contract with Manchester United Football Club.

They purchased their first brand new coach in 1989 (F90CBD) and it was a very special Volvo Jonckheere with many facilities such as washroom facilities, chill out area and TV.  Whilst they did sell this coach in 1981 it has since  been bought back and is being preserved as part of their heritage fleet.

In 1994 there was an acquisition of another business -  Ericsway Coaches. This resulted in an increase of the fleet from 8 to 20 vehicles.  An even larger premises was acquired in Salford.  Despite a major set back in 1995 when a fire on bonfire night destroyed almost the whole fleet the business was restarted and rebuilt with success.

As well as the big move in 1994 the third generation son in the family, Wesley Alan Goodwin (son of Geoff, grandson of Alan) joined the business.

By the millennium the business had expanded further and various very prestigious contracts were obtained which included the ECB (England Cricket Board) and also the coaches were used by the big artists of the era including Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

In 2010 the company started to run bus services on behalf of GMPTE.

Sadly in 2014   Alan Edward Goodwin died

In September 2017 they sold their bus operation, 18 buses and part of their depot in Eccles to Diamond North West (Rotala).

A few months later in December 2017   Geoffrey Alan Goodwin decided to semi-retire and started a new business Go G V.I.P.  operated by Geoff and Suzanne Goodwin concentrating on VIP, Executive and Team work including the ECB to carry all incoming international cricket teams.  This business ceased in 2022 when Geoff and Suzanne fully retired.

Wes continued running Go Goodwins and in addition to the coach business developed facilities at their premises for MoT testing and similar services to the motor trade.

The company re-entered the provision of bus services and ran their buses with the fleet name Little Gem.

In 2019 the fourth generation of the family, Louis Goodwin, (son of Wes and great grandson of Alan) joined the business.

In 2022 Mayne Coaches of Warrington went into liquidation and Go Goodwins purchased some of the assets including some 15 vehicles.

The family and in particular Wes had always had a connection with North Wales and therefore the family home was moved to Trelawnyd near Dyserth.  The premises of Halendy Garage in Mostyn, formerly used by the bus and coach operator Alun Andrew, was acquired and an Operators licence was applied for by a newly formed company Go Goodwins Clwyd Limited which has the sole director of Louis Goodwin.

In April 2023 after a decision was made to cease the business in the Manchester area Go Goodwins sold further buses and the remainder of their Eccles depot to Diamond North West (Rotala).  The remaining Little Gem services ceased and the company formed to run these services later went into liquidation.

In July 2023 some 8 vehicles and the 391/2 route from Stockport to Macclesfield were taken over by Belle Vue (Manchester) Limited.

Also in July 2023 the Operators Licence for  Go Goodwins Clwyd was granted and later in the year a school contract running from Prestatyn to Holywell was acquired.  The heritage fleet is currently based in Mostyn and premises not far from Halendy garage has been acquired to store this fleet.  Some 3 buses are operated from the garage in Mostyn.

Six buses are still operated under the Mayne branding from premises in Warrington which has strong links with the Mostyn based business.
