The business was started in 1984 by Hugh Hefin Owen together with his wife Margaret. The first vehicle used was a Ford Transit and a second Transit joined the fleet three years later. The initial business name was M and H Mini Coach. The first large bus joined the fleet in 1988 and was a Ford / Plaxton Supreme IV. The business then changed its name to M and H Travel.
In 1998 tragically Hugh died and Margaret took charge of the business.
In 2012 the business was formed as a limited company with Margaret being the main Director. Margaret's son Ryan assists in the running of the business and from December 2021 he has been a Director of the company.
In addition to school contracts and private hire work the business runs a number of services - details and timetables can be found on the company's website. This part of the business has grown recently with services running into places such as Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Llangernyw, Denbigh, Henllan, Ruthin (via the villages of Llangernyw, Llandyrnog, Gellifor and Llangynhafal), Mold, Chester and from January 2020 from Mold to Wrexham via Buckley and Penyffordd.
In April 2023 the company commenced operating the TrawsCymru T8 service that runs evry hour from Chester to Corwen. A fleet of four vehicles is mainly used for this service and they have been given the latest TrawsCymru livery.
A large number of vehicles within the fleet have been given a cherished number with the suffix 'MNH'.
In 2023 the company obtained planning permission for a new depot to be built on the St Asaph Business Park.
