Roy Chard
Royce Coaches
Economy Coach Hire Company
Wrexham
BACKGROUND HISTORY
Roy Chard began his business with a taxi and then began with minibuses. His first coach was purchased in 1977 and by then he was trading as Royce Coaches. Further buses were purchased and some stage carriage services were operated as well as private hire and contract work. The services included Wrexham to Eden Drive (Queens Park), Pentre Broughton and Brynteg. In addition a morning service to Llangollen was operated.
Roy was joined in the business by his two sons Andrew and Wayne. The sons took a major part in the operation of the firm during Roy's illness and took over when he unfortunately died in 1990.
The business at one stage traded as Royce Economy Travel and later as Economy Coach Hire. Following the sons taking over they continued with the service to Brynteg and Pentre Broughton. Andrew left the business and Wayne continued as a sole trader. He himself ceased trading in June 1991. Wayne later went to work for Bryn Melyn and for a number of years managed the operations of Bryn Melyn after it became part of the GHA Group.
